Salle d'Etroit is a full serice fencing academy serving Metro Detroit and the South East Michigan area. We offer all levels of fencing classes as well private fencing instruction. Our 4200 square feet of raised floor holds up to six electric strips and space for one on one lessons. We have an onsite pro-shop for your basic equipment needs. Our US Fencing Association sanctioned club, the Underground Fencing Organization, hosts several tournements throughout the year. These are open for anyone to come and watch.

  • Beginning Fencing

    The beginning class will introduce the fencer to the basics of fencing. Proper en guarde, footwork, straight attacks and parrys will be taught. The classes will cover the basics through verbal instruction, instructor led drills, and exercises designed to enhance speed and reflexes.
    The fencing instruction will be primarily in foil, though the basics of all weapons will be covered.
    Classes are a walk-in format and cost $20/class. Wear long pants and sneakers, the use of all other equipment is included.

  • Youth Fencing

    This fencing class is geared toward kids ages 6 to 10 years old. The kids will learn the basics of fencing and sportsmanship in a less structured environment. Instruction will include illustrated show and tell, basic drills with foils, and bouts between fencers with foam blades.
    Parents are required to stay onsite with their children.
    Classes are a walk-in format and cost $15/class. Wear light weight long pants and sneakers.

  • Footwork Class

    The group footwork class is taught by coach Jon Zelkowski. This is an hour of intense footwork and bladework as well as tactical and timing drills. The footwork class is for intermediate to advanced fencers.
    The class is $5 in addition to the normal $5 Floor Fee.

  • Epee Class

    This epee class is taught by Wayne State Assistant coach Wojtek Dudek. This will concentrate on building the skills needed to compete in epee including footwork, blade work, and tactical thinking approaching a bout. This class is open to fencers of any level that want to concentrate on their epee skills.
    Classes are a walk-in format and cost $20/class. Wear light weight long pants or knickers and sneakers. Bring an epee for the class.

  • Competitive Youth Fencing

    This competitive class is for kids 9 to 13 years that have been through previous beginning fencing classes with any club. In this class, students will learn advanced actions in fencing and tactics during a bout. Instruction will be a combination of drills, physical workouts, and active bouting. Students should have their own electrical equipment, foils and bodycords.
    Classes are a walk-in format and cost $20/class. Wear light weight long pants and sneakers.

  • Physical Conditioning Class

    This one hour class is for fencers of any level that would like to work on building strength and agility to compliment their fencing skills. This class would also be suitable for non-fencers that just want to get more active.
    Classes are a walk-in format and cost $5/class. Shorts and sneakers are acceptable for this class. Bring a water bottle and a towel
